Rabat

Rabat is the capital of the Kingdom of Morocco and the fourth imperial city. It is also the capital of the Rabat-Salé-Zemmour-Zaer region. The city carries the perfect blend of the traditional historical era and the cotemporary modern present. It is situated on the Atlantic Ocean near the river Bou Regreg. Rabat came into existence in the third century BC with the settlement named Chellahon the banks of the Oued Bou Regreg. In 40 AD, it was taken over by Romans and named as Sala Colonia. The Romans settlement stayed in the area till 250 AD after which it was taken over by Berber rulers. In 1146, the Almohad ruler Abd al-Mu'min made a full scale fortress and attacked on Spain. In 1170, Rabat was given the title Ribatu l-Fath, which meant "stronghold of victory," from which the city got its name.

    Mausoleum of Mohammed V: The Mausoleum of Mohammed V encloses the tombs of the Moroccan king and his two sons, late King Hassan II and Prince Abdallah. It is positioned opposite side of the Hassan Tower. It is an architectural masterpiece that reflects the modern Alaouite dynasty structural designing style. The white silhouette adorned with typical green tiled roof makes it look amazing.

    Hassan Tower: Hassan Tower also called Tour Hassan is an incomplete mosque in Rabat, Morocco. The foundation of the led in 1195 AD by sultan Yacoub al-Mansour but the construction was stopped in-between as sultan died in 1199. It was suppose to be the largest minaret with largest tower. The tower was made of red sandstone and reached 44m (140ft) whereas it was suppose to be 86m (260ft) height.

    Chellah necropolis: Chellah is a necropolis situated on the outskirts of Rabat and features ancient and medieval ruins. It is the most ancient human settlement dates way in third century BC. It contains the ruins of the Roman town and gives the view of Roman architectural elements including a Decumanus Maximus. Many of structures in Chellah got destroyed in 18th century earthquake. Presently it is transformed into a garden and tourist venue.

    Kasbah of the Udayas: Kasbah of the Udayas was constructed during the sovereignty of the Almohads. Almohads started the reconstructed the Kasbah in AH 544 / AD 1150 and also added a palace and a mosque and named it al-Mahdiyya which was named after Yaqub al-Mansur.
